Hipparcos Star Data

The data in this Cube is derived from the "Hippocras" catalog of star data, plus data from stars closer than 50 parsecs (a total of 119,617 stars). This data was downloaded from astronexus.com, an interesting and useful site by David Nash. If you are not knowledgeable about Astronomy but you would like to understand this data, you should visit this site and check out the Stellar Cartography section, in particular, The Armchair Astrometrist.
The two measures, AbsMag (absolute magnitude) and ColorIndex (basically, the temperature of the star) are used to create the widely used Hertzsprung-Russell Diagram as a sunflower plot. The two measures, Dec (declination) and RA (right ascension) are used to create a view of the Milky Way (our galaxy) as seen from the Earth.
The dimension, Spectra A - O, was created within Antaeus by partitioning subsets defined using the spectra defined in the Spectrum dimension (see PartitionsDefining new dimensions). These are used to separate this sample plot. The solid yellow points is a brush of one of these subsets, defined by the O spectra.
