American Colleges

This cube visualizes 32 different variables from 1302 colleges in the United States. It provides an example of a cube with a large number of measures, resulting in 1,024 different basic scatter plots.

This data was used as the basis for the 1995 Data Analysis Exposition. This was a special session at the Joint Statistical Meetings which used a common dataset as a vehicle for demonstrating innovative approaches to analyzing and displaying data. Much of the information appeared in the popular U.S. News and World Report special issue comparing colleges.

This data is slightly modified in that the 32nd variable, AbsMathVerbalDiff, is a function of the first two measures, Math SAT and Verbal SAT, that was created within Antaeus itself. It also contains two dimensions that were partitioned within Antaeus, MathVerbalDiff (partitioned from the AbsMathVerbalDiff measure) and BothHighLow (partitioned from a plot of AppsAccepted against InStateTuition). These were added to demonstrate the use of added measures and dimensions (see Functions—Defining new measures and Partitions—Defining new dimensions).
